A long time reader of this e-zine, Jeff at Starcon received one recently and said, "So, that’s what a Fun Meter is!" ***************** !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! QUOTES FROM OUR POSTERS! IF WE LEARNED FROM DOGS, WE’D KNOW STUFF LIKE... When loved ones come home, always run to greet them. Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy. When it’s in your best interest – practice obedience. Let others know when they’ve invaded your territory. Take naps and stretch before rising. Run, romp, and play daily. Thrive on attention and let people touch you. Avoid biting, when a simple growl will do. On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass. On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree. When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body. No matter how often you’re scolded, don’t buy into the guilt thing and pout...run right back and make friends. Delight in the simple joy of a long walk. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you’ve had enough. Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you’re not. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it. When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently. BUY PACKS of inspirational posters at http://www2.mailordercentral.com/trainerswarehouse/, do a Product Search for POSTERS, then look for Training Room Posters (30/pack). !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ IDEAS TO INSPIRE The Words We Use Serve as Labels Labels lock us in. If you label your situation as "horrible" or "intolerable", that’s how you will think of it. * To avoid being trapped by our labels – and to find ways to awaken our spirits at work – be aware of the risks that accompany the words we use and revise your wording. "Corporations pollute". No - people in the corporations who make the decisions and who carry out the acts of pollution do. "Organizations downsize, fire, or hire". No - executives who make the decision and managers who carry out the acts do. Words represent perceptions, not reality per se: when we talk about something, we can only interpret it from our own perspective. * Admit that our perspectives are limited and invite other perspectives. Even then, our collective perspective can’t know it all. Words have different meanings to different people: years ago, a philosophy professor of mine drew a circle in the center of the chalk board and wrote the word "phenomenon" in the circle. Around the circle he placed such words as philosopher, religionist, scientist, poet, and homemaker. He then showed how each would view and explain the phenomenon from his or her given perspective, different from, possibly conflicting with, and perhaps blind to each of the others. Such conflicting interpretations can cause miscommunication and, even worse, anger and violence. * Anticipate that people may have a different meaning, a different agenda, a different priority for the same term. Thanks, Jim Evers, Evers & Associates, for great perspective! ************************** HAS THE BIBLE HELPED YOU IN RECRUITING, INSPIRING, & RETAINING EMPLOYEES? The age-old tradition of storytelling is experiencing a revival and increasing number of companies are using it to help people learn about the company, a particular job, or a new procedure. In most organizations, these things are taught using dense manuals. Most employees don’t make it through them, let alone remember what’s in them. Stories get across knowledge and procedures in a way that employees will not only understand, but remember. "Storytelling is a fun, friendly form of communication," says David Armstrong, author of Managing by Storying Around. And that's not all it does. According to Rick Stone (StoryWork Institute), stories provide behavioral models on how employees should act in certain situations. Noel Tichy's book, The Leadership Engine, advocates that the best tool in the leaders arsenal is storytelling. Stories carry lessons and send messages. At its simplest, storytelling is the oldest form of communication. It has the ability to touch human emotion and move people. As Armstrong says in his book, "All cultures, all ages, all genders, all races, all disabilities, all levels of experience, all levels of education and all businesses yesterday, today and tomorrow believe and enjoy storytelling." ****************************** Tips for Writing Your Own Stories …… * Identify heroic action in your organization where people made a difference. * Think of stories that illustrate your core values, mission and policies. * Find out who the storytellers in your organization are and get them to help you. * Expect resistance. Some employees may think it's a strange concept, until they've read/heard a few stories and get hooked. * Keep stories short. * Use employees' names. They enjoy recognition and are motivated by it. * Use existing stories - get Tales for Trainers, Margaret Parkin. adapted from and article at http://www.businesscafeonline.com Get more tips on helping great employees learn at http://www.trainingsys.com, click TRAIN TIPS. |||||||||||||||||||||||||| &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& RETAIN THE BEST Would Your Employees Answer "Yes"?
