Survey: Employees Want Holiday Gifts From Bosses A random survey of 680 workers around the nation conducted for Lands’ End by Market Facts TeleNation found:

66% want a gift from their employer 31% expect the gift to be worth more than $45 76% prefer a gift certificate instead of merchandise 68% want the present to be a surprise

That finding was unexpected, said Lands’ End spokesperson, Anna Schryver. “It shows that they want to be treated at holiday time like they are at home. They want employers to make it special.”

In a ranking of 1 to 5, employees would most like to receive cash, the poll found. But their second choice is clothing with the company logo, followed by food, work-related items and trinkets.

While helping a client prepare to roll out the pilot of a new piece of software & the accompanying web-based training, we found this super helpful checklist:

Learner Acquisition * Recruit the learners * Contact managers in field offices * Confirm that the selected learners are appropriate

Learner Skill Level * Confirm that learners have adequate computer skills * Verify that learners have prerequisite knowledge of the training topic. * Validate that learners have adequate browser and Internet skills

Hardware * Document whether computer platforms (PC, Mac, UNIX) will support the WBT software  * Confirm that learners have modems and/or network connections * Verify that technical requirements (color monitor, resolutions, audio) are met

Software * Specify and verify that learners have correct version of browser * Test for necessary downloaded plug-ins

Network Connection * Verify that learners can connect to the network * Document learners’ connection speed, and set performance expectations * Assess connection reliability

Dates * Check the calendar to avoid end-of-quarter rush and holidays * Avoid dates that conflict with international and religious holidays, if the pilot is evaluating synchronous WBT tools
