OK, so this wasn't a "call", it was an e-mail posted to a listserv: "We found the Ten Steps (Training Systems, Inc. Ten Steps to Determining the Return on Your Training Investment worksheet) to be a really good, practical approach that trainers can apply in virtually any situation. *Great idea for new employee orientation using existing people and time: Bob Schultz's organization calls it the Grassroots Orientation and Training program, which starts with identifying the individuals that people go to when they need help (the person with the knowledge & skills they need - supervisor or non-supervisor). That person is asked to become the area's coach, mentor, buddy, and friend. They then help the area's coach learn how to do one-on-one and small group training and encourage them to work with HR, the supervisor and others to help the new hire, or anyone else, be successful in the workplace. Sometimes the person is paid extra, often not.

The difference between this approach and the orientation program where everyone gets the same message is that this gets to the specifics, has a follow-up system that the person needs to be successful and is just-in-time. A huge increase in retention! The Grassroots program give continuous answers to:
